Chums was born on the water way back in 1983 when a dory boat guide on the Colorado River sewed the first Original eyewear retainer to keep his customers from losing their sunglasses in the rapids. Fast forward to 2023 and we're celebrating four decades of designing innovative products built for adventure.

Chums has a long history on the water. 40 years ago, a dory boat guide in southern Utah created the first Original cotton eyewear retainer on a $60 sewing machine in the back of his VW van so that his customers wouldn't lose their glasses in the river. We've come a long way since then, but the mission is the same: to help our customers hang on to the gear they value most.
We still manufacture many of our products in our original factory in Hurricane, Utah. Now with three offices and more than 75 employees (a few of whom have been with us for over 30 years), it's safe to say that we've learned a thing or two about staying loyal to our roots and to our people during the past 40 years.
Chums is owned and operated by the Ferries family, who purchased the company in 2002. In the 21 years that have followed, they have pushed innovation through product development and reinforced the brand's commitment to American manufacturing, leading Chums to become the global brand that so many know and love today.
