Growing up in Fort Collins, CO, the outdoors were a big part of my childhood. The Poudre canyon and Cameron Pass were our playgrounds; my family spent nearly every weekend here, so the mountains always felt like home.
As I got older, I knew I needed to live in the mountains, which landed me in Steamboat Springs, where I attended Colorado Mountain College. I just wanted to snowboard as much as possible, so I'd chase winter in Mt. Hood, Oregon, during the summer. Eventually, though, I felt the need for a change of pace, so I took an Intro to Fly Fishing class. We traveled to the famed Green River, and it was there (even after getting skunked!) that I ultimately fell in love with fly fishing.
Shortly after that trip, I met my partner in crime, Dave Reilly, who was recovering from a mountain bike accident, and together we honed our abilities on the water and caught the fishing bug. We’d spend the workweek scheming out our weekends—flying through google earth, dreaming up all the places we'd fish next. That was almost ten years ago. Not much has changed; we’re still planning fishing adventures together and documenting them along the way. After a handful of moves and a short stint living in our van, we've found Idaho home.
I am a product of my environment, mostly fishing for trout. Hiking into a high alpine lake and throwing terrestrials to big cutthroat remains my favorite way to wet a line. But I love all types of fly fishing, and this year, I'm hoping to have the chance to target some new species and dip my toes in saltwater fishing.
I never take for granted the opportunity to be involved with some truly great people and brands I’ve been fortunate enough to represent. And Chums is no different!
