Ambassadors > Amie Engerbretson
Born and raised in Lake Tahoe with a former pro skier as a father, Amie spent her first day on snow at 10 months old. It wasn't long after that she fell in love with the mountains and developed a passion for skiing and adventure. After breifly persuing a dance career and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Media Management from Columbia College, she decided to return to her roots and give the ole pro-skier thing a whirl. Fast forward to today, and she is a professional big mountain/freeskier, producer, host, and devoted dog-mom living in Truckee, CA.
She's constantly on the hunt for powder, big mountains, steep lines, and exciting features. When she's not skiing, a good chunk of her time is spent filming, shooting, and working on various projects in the outdoor industry, both behind and in front of the camera. She's been featured in Warren Miller films, produced an autobiographical film "Snow Pony" with Teton Gravity Research (TGR), and hosted her own podcast "Long Underwear," where she interviews individuals in the ski industry and they talk about anything but skiing. Her most recent achievement was directing a climate documentary with Protect Our Winters (POW) and TGR titled, "The Hypocrite." As a member of the POW Athlete Alliance, climate advocacy has become another primary focus and passion for Amie in recent years.
When she's not skiing, filming, shooting, or creating, she enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking, surfing, cooking, indulging in organic wine, line dancing, and spending time with her friends
Who do you look up to? Any personal or professional heroes?
In skiing, my ultimate hero will always be Shane McConkey. I had the privilege of knowing him well while growing up, and I admire the way he infused our ski community with a sense of fun and adventure. He was not only an extraordinary skier but also an exceptional individual. Making sure others were having fun was always his top priority. Other heroes of mine include Naomi Oreskes, a Harvard professor and author, as well as Serena Williams and Taylor Swift! (I know, I know...)
Where's your fav vacation spot?
Punta Mita, Mexico! Punta Mita is my favorite sleepy spot to catch some friendly waves, drink some beers, and chill out.
If you were to have one superpower what would it be and why?
I would love to be able to understand and speak all languages. It would be amazing to travel all over the world and communicate with everyone I meet!
Favorite adventure beverage?
Water! Haha, I might sound boring, but I have a serious addiction to water and never leave the house without plenty of it, no matter what my plans for the day are.
What are three Chums items on your must-pack gear list?
My all-time favorite is my Rover Cross-Body Bag; I never leave the house without it! A close second, though, would be the Trail Dawg Waist Pack. I have a 30lb Poodle named Bill, and I take him on lots of adventures in the summer and winter. The Trail Dawg allows me to satisfy both Bill's and my water needs! Also, I have to shout out Chums' Beanies; I have tons of beanies, and I always gravitate towards my Chums ones.
BONUS QUESTION: just 'cause we’re curious
Is a hotdog a sandwich?
I have not given this much thought in my life but I am going to say no...
