Jonathan Moss

Angler, Fishing Guide, The Captain's Log TV Host

📍Orlando, Florida

Ambassadors >  Jonathan Moss

Captain Jonathan Moss, is a Flordia Native who has been fishing the waterways of the state since he was 3 years old. From the start, he's harbored dreams of exploring the unique and vast estuaries not only of Flordia but also those across the United States and beyond. Whether it's fishing backcountry sweetwater creeks for trophy Largemouth Bass, poling the flats in search of tailing Redfish, or deep dropping in 1800 feet of water for Swordfish, his passion for pursuing fish has remained unwaivering.

Today, you can find him still exploring new waters while raising his two boys alongside his wife in the same neighborhood where he was born and raised, right in the heart of Orlando, FL. For the last 9 years, he has been a full-time fishing guide, chasing both fresh and saltwater species that call Central Florida home, all while educating other anglers along the way. Additionally, he hosts the fishing TV Show, "The Captain’s Log," which airs on the Waypoint TV channel and app!

If it swims, Jonathan wants to catch it! He knows that there's something special about actively pursuing fish, presenting a lure or fly to them ,and seeing them react to it.

Who do you look up to? Any personal or professional heroes?

I've always looked up to my dad; he's not only a great person but also an exceptional fisherman. He was the one who got me into fishing. When I was just three years old he started taking me out on the water with him, and it changed my life!

Where's your fav vacation spot?

Well, considering my family lives in one of America's top vacation destinations, we like to escape the crowds when we get out of town. We love vacationing in the mountains for a change of scenery, especially in the fall in East Tennessee. My wife and I will take the kids on roadtrips to seek out sceneic trails, chase fish in new waters, and explore areas along the way while we narrow down the best road trip snacks.

If you were to have one superpower what would it be and why?

My favorite superhero is Superman, so naturally, I'd want to fly (I'd never have to sit in traffic again!). If I could also have the super strength, speed, and great eyesight that Superman has, that would be a bonus. For now, I'll settle on being able to fly.

Favorite adventure beverage?

Diet Coke with fresh squeezed lime juice.

What are three Chums items on your must-pack gear list?

I use Chums retainers everyday when I'm out on my boat. My two go-to retainer styles are the Orbiter and the Mariner, both are lightweight and built for fishing. My favorite around-the-town Chums product has become the Bandit Zip, I love the low profile size that can still hold all my daily wallet essentials.

BONUS QUESTION: just 'cause we’re curious

Is a hotdog a sandwich?

Nah, it’s a hotdog. Chili, cheese, and onions please :)
